A couple deals went down around the league with the Free Agent period just a couple hours away from starting.
1) Nick Swisher was traded from the White Sox to the Yanks for Wilson Betemit and a minor leaguer.
2) The Cubs acquired Kevin Gregg from the Marlins for P Jose Ceda.
With this, Kerry Wood will likely not be resigned by the Cubs. This could open a door for the Rays to swoop in and steal him. He will drag in $ 5-10 Million per year, but it is worth it as he was one of the best closers in the Majors last year. I would like this move, as I said in my potiential signees article.
3) Indians pitcher Cliff Lee recieved the AL Cy Young. He deserved it. Great performance after a rocky year last season.
4) Ron Gardenhire was signed to a two year contract extension by the Twins.
I will have more tomorrow. It should be a big day since it is the first day of the Free Agent signing period. This will be an exciting offseason. There are tons of superstars out there and great hidden gems.
