The Rays are very close to a two year deal with 40 year-old Brian Shouse. The deal would be for two years and is pending a physical. Shouse would be the Trever Miller replacement. He pitched in 69 games last season for the Brewers and was their lefty specialist. Shouse is a lefty side arm pitcher and is what we are looking for. Here is a good view of his delivery:
My only concern is that our bullpen is in a log jam. This new signing would pretty much lock up our bullpen as Balfour, Wheeler, Howell, Nelson, Percival, Shouse, and Bradford. This would leave no room for Niemann and Hammel, who are out of options, and Salas and Cormier. Cormier was signed to a Major League deal last month. This would mean that Hammel and Niemann would need to be traded. I would assume that we could get some value from them.
