BJ Upton as a Leadoff Man

While I have been a big proponent of batting BJ first, it’s not working.  At least early in the season.  I’d point to this as being a major factor in the inconsistency of the Rays offense.

This probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone.   BJ Upton has the worst batting average of any leadoff hitter in the American League.  At least until he can start hitting consistently, I’d like to see Joe juggle the batting order a bit and move either Aki or Jason Bartlett into the top spot.

JB is really hitting the ball well to start the season.  He’s hitting .390 with a .438 OBP.  That’s worthy of a chance.  Or, perhaps Joe could make just a subtle move to help the team.  Why not swap BJ and CC in the top two spots?  The way the two of them are going, it couldn’t hurt either one.

The Rays need a jump-start that keeps the team going for a few games.  Platooning right fielders is not enough to shake up the offense.
