Joe Maddon’s catching a little heat in Geoff Baker’s post-game blog in the Seattle Times this morning for his post-game comments about the late afternoon shadows at Safeco Field. He thought that the roof should have been closed because both teams had trouble seeing the ball.
I remember growing up watching games at Wrigley Field in the late afternoon. Bruce Sutter and Lee Smith would stride to the mound in the ninth with the shadow half-way between the pitcher’s mound and home plate. Try to catch up with a Sutter split-fingered fastball or some Lee Smith heat when it goes from light to darkness.
That’s part of the game. This might have been a thought Joe should have kept to himself. Only makes him sound whiney.
