wade-davisWade Davis has had an amazing start to the season thus far. So far, he is 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 5 starts. He has a 1.33 WHIP in 23.1 IP. When we compare this to who is considered by many the Rays top prospect, David Price, Price is 1-3 with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP in 5 starts. Davis is racking up better numbers than Price right now. ESPN’s Peter Gammons guaranteed that both Price and Wade Davis would be up on the Rays by the end of the season on Sunday’s Baseball Tonight. In the spring, Buster Olney said that Wade Davis looked better than Price and he would consider him better. Lots of praise for Davis.

The question that the Rays will have, since both will likely get the call before the end of the year, is which one gets the call first. I would have to say, right now, that Wade Davis has earned the call first. I think the Rays will call Davis to fill the role in the rotation that everyone thought David Price had sewn up before the season began. I would like to see both get called up in the near future, with one going to the bullpen. The role in the pen would most benefit  DP right now. Before the end of the year, Sonnanstine or Niemann may end up traded or in the pen to make room for both of them. Just ponder this for a moment.

Rays Rotation in the not too distant future:

1.Shields

2. Kazmir

3. Garza

4. David Price

5. Wade Davis

Scary.
