AAA – The Durham Bulls lost to Lehigh Valley 5-3. Mitch Talbot was the starter and went five innings, scattering nine hits that led to five runs. Chad Orvella pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. 1B Chris Richard hit his 10th HR of the season and Matt Joyce went 2-4.
Alex Jamieson joined the Bulls from Hudson Valley to replace Reid Brignac on the roster. No second move was made to replace Dale Thayer. All eyes will be on the bulls game tomorrow to see who makes the start. David Price is scheduled, but indications are he could be headed to Cleveland to start Monday night’s game.
AA – Montgomery lost a tight one 3-2 as Jacksonville scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to claim the victory. Brian Baker was outstanding in the start, going five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. Eduardo Morlan pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and was tagged with the loss. He gave up a run on a hit and three walks. The Biscuits got their runs on Matt Spring’s 2nd HR of the season. Fernando Cortez and Drew Anderson each had a couple of hits for Montgomery.
A – Rain forced an early completion of the Charlotte/Palm Beach game with the Stone Crabs coming out on top, 3-2. Pedro Powell singled in Matt Hall with the would-be winning run in the bottom of the fifth just before the game was halted. Starter David Newmann pitched the full five innings to pick up the win. He is now 2-2. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five.
A – The Bowling Green Hot Rods were beaten by Savannah, 4-2. Starter Shane Dyer sees his record drop to 0-3 on the season as he allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings. The Sand Gnats had eight hits and no walks against him while striking out six times. SS Tim Beckham had a nice night at the plate, going 3-5 with a double. The Hot Rods managed only the two runs while banging out twelve hits.
