I reference this more for amusement than anything else, I hope. Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports speculates that the Rays will be in a market for a closer. He provides Jose Valverde of the Astros as the possible target and suggests Wade Davis as the most likely return. No thanks, I’ll pass.
And, as expected, the next suggestion is the need for a second baseman, with Cleveland’s Mark DeRosa a logical choice. I like this one, depending what the Rays would need to give up. Again, if it’s Wade Davis, I’d walk away.
I’m just hoping that the trade deadline approachs and the Rays are still in it to be buyers. Things could get ugly if they start to fade and they become sellers.
