Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports includes a scout’s pretty accurate assessment of the Scott Kazmir we’ve seen so far this year:
“He’s slowly lost arm strength, and he was never very big to begin with,” the scout said. “Right now he thinks he has to hit the corners because his stuff isn’t there, which is why he’s throwing 100 pitches in five innings every time he goes out. “
Peter Gammons muses that Huston Street would be a good fit for the Rays. Street is definitely pitching better in the past month or so, but seems to go through some ugly stretches. Come to think of it, he’d fit right in as a Rays closer. But, at what cost?
Eric Mack on cbssports.com projects that the Rays will have four All-Star participants: Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford, Jason Bartlett and Matt Garza. His assertion on Garza is that Joe will definitely want to take one of his own pitchers. He also has Marco Scutaro of the Blue Jays making it. Aren’t Ben Zobrist’s numbers approximately twice as good as his? Marco Scutaro?

No love for the American League home run leader in the All-Star game?
As for Kazmir, I think he’ll be back. I believe him and the team when they say he changed his delivery to compensate for the arm injury. He’ll be back. The question is: Where? I just think this is something they should’ve caught in spring training.
