Drew Sharpe in the Detroit Free Press talks about the Tigers willingness to spend and the temptation to go after Carl Crawford. Unfortunately for him, he’s factually incorrect in his piece.
“…who wouldn’t want Carl Crawford? The Tampa Bay outfielder could become a highly sought-after free agent if he declines his option for next season. Crawford would solve several personnel problems — an All-Star leftfielder, a left-handed batter with speed who would fit at either leadoff or No. 2 in the batting order.
It’s a club option, not a player option. Let’s just assume the Rays will not opt out of the $10 million Carl’s due.

Bruce Jenkins in the San Francisco Chronicle wrote a column entitled “Some power options for Sabean to mull”. The San Francisco Giants are looking to add some power to their lineup. And, the fourth name on his list is BJ Upton.
The Rays would be reluctant to deal one of the game’s few five-tool talents, but they’re trying to sign outfielder Carl Crawford long-term and they’re down on Upton, who recovered too slowly from offseason shoulder surgery, hit .241 (11 homers) and put off team officials with a careless attitude. That could be fixed in the proper setting.
I’m thinking I could be talked into a deal involving catcher Buster Posey. What do you think?
