What’s Important Now: Tough Night For Rays

Posted: 11th June 2011 by Devon Rogers in What's Important Now
  • So far this season, when Jeremy Hellickson took the mound we knew he would give us a good performance and we knew the offense would support him. Not last night. Last night he allowed 5 earned on 7 hits when the home run bug bit him, and the offense mustered only 3 hits behind him, the first of which coming in the 6th. Andy Sonnanstine gave up the other two runs on 3 hits in the 8th.
  • All three hits for the Rays came from the 7th and 8th hitters, with Sam Fuld breaking through with a double in the 6th and Justin Ruggiano going 2 for 3 after striking out in his first at bat.
  • Tonight the Rays will look to bounce back after last night’s tough loss. The Rays will have David Price on the mound, who is looking to build upon his great start last time out. Price has had an up and down season so far, going 7-5 with a 3.35 ERA. Last time out he had one of the good starts, allowing 1 earned on 5 hits in 7 innings.
  • The Rays offense will look to score some runs with Jeremy Guthrie on the mound for the Orioles. Guthrie has had a rough season so far, going 2-8 with a 3.71 ERA. He has faced the Rays 3 times this season, going 1-2 with a 4.28 ERA. The last two starts he has gotten losses against the Rays. The last time they faced him they got 3 runs on 7 hits. Hopefully the Rays offense will be able to get it going against Guthrie tonight.
